As I sit here in the salon on this cold and snowy day, I am thinking through the history of my clientele and how much I appreciate each and every one of them.
The reason that I am in this state of mind is because unfortunately, one of my clients passed away this week.
When I have someone sit in my chair, it is an honor. They are trusting me with their most precious thing… themselves. I don’t take that honor lightly. I love getting to know my clients, and becoming a part of their lives. I do so many weddings, and I love the feeling on that day… the excitement in the bridal room, the way that the dads look at their little girls when they see them for the first time, but even better than that is that we have built a relationship prior to that day.
For one of my clients, I have been lucky enough to see her through almost every major event in her young life…. Her first homecoming, her sweet 16, proms, and most recently her wedding. (I will say it warmed my heart when she messaged me from college and told me that someone else getting her ready for her first formal there just felt wrong). But I know her. I know her family. I know her stories, and her friends, and her life. I know her passions, and even though we are now hundreds (if not thousands) of miles apart, I am still a part of her life.
Bottom line - I don’t have clients. When you sit in my chair, you are my guest. It is my home and I am welcoming you to it. Just like if you were sitting on my couch, we will talk and get to know each other and eventually you will become my friend. So thank you to my friends, for allowing me into your life. I love each and every one of you, and am honored that you have included me.
I will miss my friend that passed away this week. I haven’t known her too long, but she left an impact on me and others in my salon. Friends, hug your people close… you never know when it will be your last one.
Hope you have a beautiful day!
